Description

This model fits the following brakes:
SRAM Level (not Level Ultimate or Level TLM – those are either RL170 or RL160)
Avid Elixir 3, 5, R, CR, CR Mag, X7, X9, X0, XX.
These fit exactly the same as our RL160 – its purely preference and does not matter which one you choose. Mechanics prefer the RL165 because it is easier to handle given the knurled tab.

    A cable/hydraulic hybrid disc brake system offers power and modulation of fully hydraulic brakes without the complexity and hassles that sometimes accompanies those systems.

    The Ultimo’s main difference from the Motoko is that the Ultimo has four pistons (vs. 2) and larger pads. The rotor is also equipped with removable aluminum heat sinks.

    Compatible with cable-actuated Road Brake Levers (SHORT PULL)

    – Flat mount standard

    – Closed Hydraulic System (Mineral Oil)

    – Four coated pistons

    – Includes Reaction Compressionless brake cable set for superb response

    – Includes 160mm, 6-bolt stainless steel rotor (*Rear caliper is designed to fit 160mm rotors w/o requiring an adapter)

    – Simple one knob pad adjustment

    – Uses Shimano D-type pads (Saint/Zee)

    – Caliper weighs only 139 grams.

    Three years of development and we think Paul nailed it, this is arguably the best mechanical caliper ever made for a bicycle. It’s available in Long Pull, Short Pull, and Campagnolo pull.

    - Tried and true ball bearing in a ramp system.
    - Bigger balls for smoothness and increased pad travel.
    - Hardened the steel where the balls contact the ramps.
    - Three hardened steel pins to locate the pad actuator.
    - Added “fangs” to the inner backing plate for stiffness and beefed up outer caliper body.

    As always, allow a couple short rides to bed in the pads. Around the 3rd ride, these brakes really start to BITE!
